Fuck. Fuck. Fuck and more Fuck.

Lea violently cleaned her room with a rage that basically threw shit on the bed. Why she was angry? Perhaps it had to do with her father. Someone she hadn’t spoken a word two up until 2 day ago. ”FUCK!” The dragon would hold her hip as she somehow managed to knock it into her bed frame. Of all the things to hurt a dragon it was going to be a fucking bed frame. Breathing as her body pushed against the nearest wall, a groan would leave her lips to endure the short live pain that would simmer and leave eventually.

Donovan Nowell, Mr. Chairmen had the nerve to visit her job. Not only that, he wanted to talk. Lea didn’t want to but unfortunately have in. You could imagine how it went. Short lived but a compromise was made. Now she had to endure his presence with him in her home in two or three days. She wasn’t excited, she wasn’t pleased and she hated herself for even suggesting it. It was unfortunately the only way they could settle everything…or at least almost everything. The dragon finally pushed herself odd the wall and completely ignored cleaning as she went out to the living room.

She didn’t feel like anything now. She hopped, skipped and jumped onto her couch with her feet up to fill in the space. TV put on, she would suffer bad television for the rest of the night. The blonde didn’t even want food, this was a big problem. Mumbling under her breath the fae would flip again and again, pressing the button in utter frustration increasing every time. “fuck him, fuck him, fuck him. FUCKING FUCK” the dragon pushed down a little too hard on the remote and gave it a nice crack on the exterior.

Lea would groan in annoyance as she tossed it by her feet as she laid on the couch staring up at the ceiling. She had been just fine on her own. She didn’t need them in her life. She didn’t need them. In the mist of rubbing her face a noise came from the door. The dragon glared her vision up as she sat up. Company? Now? Standing up, Lea would match over, smoke seeping out of her lips momentarily until she tried to stop herself before opening the door. “What do you wa-“ she stopped. A familiar sight of almond shaped eyes would be standing at the door attached to a pretty face. Mei?

She’d stubble on her words, not wanting to yell at someone she knew. “Mei…uh….hi. What…what brings you here? I thought you were busy?” Was she? Lea didn’t actually know, or she easily forgotten if Mei has told her anything. Not thinking twice she’d gestured her arm out to let the woman walk through. “Come in…make yourself comfy”

not in the mood lol

It wasn't customary, nor was it anything she'd have done without thinking it through. Mei, not a woman of whimsy and showing up at someone's door unannounced was nothing she'd not have hemmed and hawed over. She'd simply been in the neighborhood and seeing as she was, and the reason she was here at all was something quick and simple, would see her car parked out front and her heels clicking up the walk, even and with every purpose that she likely looked a woman on a mission. Not a fallacy in the least.

Prim and proper as always, hugged in navy and cream, the woman would smooth a hand down her dark pencil skirt as her knuckles paused before the door in a hover unsure. Not suddenly but all the same, paused. The soft sound of frustration on the other side to the door would quirk her brow and hesitate her where she'd not have otherwise. It'd die down a moment later and she'd think little more of it beyond the fleeting an emotional outburst which could have been as easily tied to a stubbed toe as it had been an emotional unraveling.

She'd knock then.

Knuckles over wood and then she'd settle there in a half step back, her eyes calm and quiet as she studied the whorls in the dark surface, her enhanced hearing following the stomped steps of a woman who sounded nothing like she'd had a short brush-in with a flat surface against her toes. Calm and collected, Mei stood there as a rush of air tugged against her back, the force of the opened door sucking air into the home at its other side. Lea's voice was irritated and brash, quirking Mei's brow in question as she realized who it was standing there, politely waiting.

"Was I?"

She didn't recall ever stating as much but she had nothing that claimed it wrong of Lea to state either. She'd not been anything particularly busy, but then neither had she planned this either. A sweeping arm would offer her invitation, one which Mei wouldn't take, not right then anyway. "It's quite fine if you're... indisposed, Lea. I wasn't planning on staying." The box under her arm was produced in an offering, like a gift, though they both knew perfectly well what it was. It was the same box she'd handed Lea before, twice over now.

"I was simply in the neighborhood and thought I'd save you the hassle of a trip downtown." Her smile was soft and too stiff, cordial and businesslike where Lea's was so often wide and warm. "They're lighter in construction, should allow for better control while the enchant is also stronger... they should be more comfortable and just as effective," she'd say nothing over the fact that she'd been digging into this like it were a personal project. Dark eyes flickering over Lea's face and a frown would decorate hers the moment next, soft and quiet. She looked flushed and a bit erratic, the sort of look that was caught off guard, surely, but had also been in the middle of some other feeling when she'd been interrupted--

"I'm sorry if I interrupted...

"Are you alright?"

Her form bent slightly, a slight bow that was apologetic and respectful as her feet inched backwards a step.

“I..er..” Lea rubbed the back of her neck. “I guess I poorly assumed then, my bad.” Wasn’t she always though? Wasn’t there always something? After a few years of knowing her, Lea would have thought of a better reason she didn’t think she would come over. Though the distraction was probably well needed right now. Even if Lea didn’t want to talk about it, a side visit from Mei could do the trick and get her to calm down for a little while. The dragon blinked confused at the little gift the spellbinder had handed out. It was just another round of gloves that she made for her over the years.

Lea lightly smile taking it, and shut the door behind them as she walked inside “Thanks Mei. To be fair I might not have picked it up until like next week.” She’d pop open the package to take a look. Her lips stretch a little more seeing it up close. There would be time to test it out later. Maybe she could use them on an older dragon with an iron bar if he tried to fuck her over with his second visit in a few days. “You always make them better and better, I don’t know what I’d do with out you.”

A gentle chuckle would set the package off to the table as she would move them later. Her boy slightly flinched as she was questioned. Mei knew some little here and there about her family, but never in great detail, just that she was long gone from connecting to them. At least that was true up until now. “Yeah, I just knocked my hip against a corner at full speed. Didn’t see where I was going.” Partly true but it wasn’t the reason she was really snappy.

Her eyes saw the step backwards and as a reflex Lea stepped forward, almost worried she was leaving too soon. Perhaps a distraction would help. “I’m not doing anything important. Actually…I could use a distraction. So if…you’re free right now you can stay a bit? I can make up some coffee and have homemade brownies I made myself.” The dragon almost felt as if she was pleading the woman to stay but she was far too eager to distract from the real problem she didn’t want to talk about.

The blonde would move towards the kitchen as she went to start up the pot of coffee. “It’s a special blend I have. Really something, just take normal grounds and I give it a little kick to make it taste amazing. Cream or sugar for your coffee, or do you like it black?” Face not in the woman’s direct sight, Lea grabbed and pulled the drink supplies from the cabinet and immediately started the coffee regardless if the Asian behind her wanted a mug of it. A scoop or so of grounds in a filter and she’s pop that pussy in to let it brew.

In the brief moment of trying to feel better the dragon found herself crumbling as she was no forced to look at her company. She liked look at Mei, but the last thing she wanted her to face was a dragon on another rage. “So… um… how’ve you been…? Me? Well my father fucking decided to pop back in my life after two fucking centuries. Fucking thinks that I should be fucking polite and treat him with respect when he didn’t give a fly FUCK about me. Call me fucking stubborn? They both fucking didn’t want me, so why the hell should I even give him fucking FIVE MINUTES OF MY GODDAMN TIME THAT SELFISH-NARROW MINDED-GREEDY- SON OF A BTICH!”

A spoon met its demise, snapping in two as Lea gave a loud snort, flames flaring at her mouth and smoke seeping out. Hands lay flat on the counter top, a large sigh rolling her neck back before it slumped down, giving up. Well that didn’t last long. Lea rubbed her face with her hands before turning to Mei in defeat now more than before. “…….okay so maybe I’m not fine.” The words stung. Against her ear drums, brows furrowed together as she looked down at the counter again. “My father decided to pop back in my life the other day with news and tried to talk to me…I’m… not taking this after math very well.

Did she ever?

"You'd likely have a few more hospital visits," Mei's tone was soft but curt as she stepped over the threshold and the door was shut behind her, a quiet sound but it resounded behind her, enhanced hearing picking it up far too easily. The spellbinder would wonder over the time frame given for pickup but it was none of her business so she'd not press it, instead her attention flicked around the apartment in curious movements. Everything seemed to be where it should be, where it'd been the last time she'd been by for an equally short trip-- or would have been as such. Her voice was a gentle murmur whens he spoke again, feet moving hardly at all from her place at the door. "Thank you," given over the compliment.

She sounded distracted.

Not all by her surroundings but rather the woman and her tone and the fact she sounded like she might snap her coffee table in half. Maybe not so blatantly, but it tinged her, that deep ire Mei knew would encompass nothing good. "I see," it sounded like a halfhearted excuse, nothing she could prove wrong, but it also didn't include everything. Lea, the woman who made jokes as abundantly as she breathed and she stood there like she'd be better depicted with smoke furling from her nostrils. This had little to do with a bumped hip. Her step backward would prompt the woman to follow, Lea's step forward more indicating than her words.

She was in need of a distraction.

Mei's brow would raise at the thought of brownies. Of course she had them laying around. Mei watched Lea a moment as she moved, studied the way she did and where she went, like a woman basing her opinion not on words at all but the language of the body, something Lea was not as careful to tame. "Cream and sugar both, if you would, please." Pushing away from the doorway it seemed her mind was made up then, though her eyes were careful as they watched the dragon. Her steps were careful as she neared the kitchen and the woman, her aura positively shuddering with energy.

Brows furrowing and Mei would sit herself in a kitchen table chair, hands laced softly on the tabletop after she set her bag to the side and out of the way. Attention once more pinned on Lea as she spoke. Mei's features would grow more and more furrowed as she continued, a quiet progression that would also paint a frown across her face. Subtle. Faint.

A spoon was broken.

Lea's gaze would flicker to Mei and her comment would quirk a brow. "I think that's a fair assessment at this point," not fine was likely the biggest understatement of the day thus far. The soft smokey smell after the fact would tickle her nose, rubbed away in a quick gentle motion before Mei settled her focus back upon the dragon. "What news?" Her prodding was gentle, curt still but her approach was ever cautious. Still, she was aware the woman might not want to talk over it. Glancing at her woven fingers a moment Mei would decide something, the sweep of her gaze as it flicked back to Lea was sharp and final.

"Let's have coffee, you can talk over what you'd like... and then we're going out," her head would tilt, features stern and set, as if daring the woman to defy this. "You need to get out of these four walls. Sitting here seething will do you no good." Decided then.

Every time she gave her that blank stare.

Movement so subtle that Lea was positive the woman would probably kill her without a sound and get away with it. It was frustrating but also great when it came to point where the dragon didn’t have much…control over her flame. It was also insanely attractive but that wasn’t point. The blonde would rub her face with both her hands, pushing it up into her skull before her fingers laced back into her hair and slump back down to rest on the counter. The thought of having to fucking clean a little more just to ‘impress him’ just made everything ten times worse. However her home wasn’t actually very messy to begin with…it was just the thought of having him over that made her anxious, angry and uncontrollably furious.

Mei asked of the news. Leah looked down with her brows pushed together. Lips would roll and gently snarl with smoke at the thought of her father again. Her arm wiped away soot off her lips as the dragon took a stool to sit down on. Her arms would cross over one another as she tried her best to be open about it. She would only get madder by the passing minute, might as well let someone know.

“He…has a second family.”

It felt awkward saying that. Weird to think she had a half-sister and two half-brothers that were told they had another sister? Why? Lea felt her gaze look back at the sudden decision to go out after coffee. The blonde felt her face scrunched a little in utter daze or confusing trying to process what she had plans for. “I.. uh appreciate the thought Mei, but I don’t…think going out will help. I mean I’m far too lazy even change let alone be in a mood to… go out.” Then again she wasn’t’ sure where the Asian woman would take her. She didn’t’ seem like the stripper and bar kind of gal so that would probably be out of the pool of choices.

Maybe she should go out…

Coffee finished, Lea would pull the two mugs, having the cream and sugar on the counter for them to use. She’d pour both cups, taking them over to Mei and handed hers over carefully so it wouldn’t be spilled. The dragon began to put a little creamer in hers and stirred it slowly, watching the colors mix and combined into an evenly lighter color. She wasn’t sure where to start. Her brows felt they were in a permanent stage of being threaded together. “Well…kinda started when I was young. Both my parents didn’t really give a damn about me, and so it all seemed. Maybe almost like an inconvenience to them. Eventually they got a divorced and I was forced upon my mother. I haven’t seen him in two hundred years and he… just comes out of the blue wanting to talk.”

If he’d had met her anywhere else, she would have walked away. But he had the somewhat brave attempted to see her at work. “He sent me a dinner invite I declined and didn’t show up. So the bastard decides to actually see me at work. How he found out where I worked is beyond me. Keeping fucking tabs I guess on a child he doesn’t know if he cares about.” That part of the conversation still burned in her brain. She remembered asking him, if he still cared. He didn’t answer. The dragon had taken sips here and there of her coffee, not paying attention of how much she actually already drank so quickly.

“..He ends up coming to the garage, it doesn’t start well, we go to a dinner to attempts in a talk but it ended up short. All I know is I have three half siblings, and the eldest, Tervalary wants to meet me. Consider me shocked he even told them about me. I told him that I can’t meet her fi we’re not on good terms and I stupidity suggested to meet him for dinner at my place in a few days so I’m not the most...thrilled.” Lea fell silent, just thinking of what conversations they would be forces to have.

Did he know about her sexuality? Would he hate her as much as her mother did?

The apple doesn’t fall from the tree, and she wouldn’t be surprised if his stick in the ass mind, did. “That’s… really it in a nut shell.”

Mei’s brows would rise as Lea spoke of her father and his apparent second family that she’d not know about. It was nothing she’d have put past a man to be capable of, but that it was something that now plagued her friend, would do wonders in tipping her features down into a difficult expression. A borderline scowl though she wasn’t a woman to exert so much expression, least of all something that would have furrowed her features all that much. The thought of going out still hung in the air, though Mei wasn’t so sure it was the best idea at that moment--

Of course, neither did she enjoy the thought of staying in, or allowing Lea to sit here and bury herself in a warm blanket of her own misery. For the moment she’d let it drop though it clung to her mind as the only viable option in this moment and inside this context.

A quiet bit of thanks was given as her coffee mug was plucked carefully from Lea’s hand to settle against her palm and upon the tabletop beside her. Settling in Mei would listen softly to the woman that stood beside the counter, her story pouring out in a manner open and honest. Herhome life sounded nothing terrible though neither was it ideal, some midway point that colored Mei would allot a bit of the woman’s personality to, as well as the rage that seemed to want to smoke from her nostrils on occasion. An absentee father and a mother that, from all she’d heard of her, left a lot to be desired.

Mei sat quietly,a knee crossed over the other and her coffee sipped softly as it cooled, all the while content to watch and listen, an old habit she’d have told you. When her job was better told as a woman paid not to talk at all, unless asked to do just that. Typically speaking her job back than had been better a thing claimed to have been paid in the spread of her legs but it’d not always been that either.

Her look was thoughtful as Mei tapped a light finger against the top of the table beside her. ”I see,” it was just as melodramatic as her gaze though that would slant to her coffee a moment later, tongue smoothing against her top lip in a soft swipe. ”He sounds as pushy as you’ve described your mother,” a frank response as her gaze slanted back. ”If it’s of hep, I could be persuaded to attend, and if that’s too bold… I can at least help you get ready,” did her father know about her sexuality? Mei wouldn’t have been surprised, honestly, for how brash Lea so often was.

Another sip of her coffee and the woman would settle on the dragon once more, her smile soft and her eyes cheeky. Defying her

”You don’t need to change, but I’m still going to insist you not sit here all night, wallowing, That hardly does you any good,” the woman had had a long few days and in reality she deserved a night out, something to get her mind off the impending dinner with her father, a father who had a second family. A man selfishly inserting himself into her life in order to rub his mistake against his first family. To have it deemed acceptable via a hoped after friendship between his ill-fated children.

”You need a good night out, after all of that selfish nonsense,”

Decided, her tone was crisp and clean and the arch of her brow daring after the woman, tempting her to argue against it like it wasn’t something needed at all.

As much as the dragon would love to have the woman with her, she couldn’t allow that. Arms would cross over one another as she though staring to the table. “You’ve seen one dragon, I rather not have you endure two fire ones.” With the amount of stubborn and anger they both held, she wouldn’t be surprised if everything burst into a giant flame. A hand scratched her jaw as she gave it some more thought. “Besides, if he didn’t know I was gay and I told him the news, he’ll assume I was with you in attempts to put more stress on him. Though I would love to give him a grieving headache, I’m not in the mood for another homophobic outburst and begin called a heathen.” Lea didn’t seemed annoyed with the idea, actually it would be nice….but she didn’t know how open he was to that sort of thing. Better to be safe then let someone she cared about have to endure someone so old fashioned.

Her eyes would blink as if to clear her mind, rubbing the back of her neck at the purpose of a night out. Perhaps it wouldn’t be horrible, but the blonde didn’t know what she had in mind. Once Mei had made up her mind she had made-up-her-mind. Lea was practically powerless over the ambition and sternness in her tone. If Lea dared to say no she feared the spell binder would some out get away with murder. It practically turned on but the possibility of endless anger could have caused the easy hormonal balance.

Or she was just fucking horny and she was the closest woman in contact to take stress on. Either way, she would have to try and go with it.

“Alright, alright, alright.” The dragon would left out a sigh, a halfhearted smile that gave into the defeat and sit up in her seat. “I’ll go out. What did you have in mind?” Though she wasn’t sure what to expect, she blindly would have to follow. Coffee eventually finished, and Lea grabbed just the first jacket she had and put on her sunglasses to cover her eyes in yellow. She didn’t ask questions. The dragon just followed. Piled into the woman’s car they went, Lea slumped in the seat as she pulled over the seat belt.

“You gonna tell me where we’re going?” Mei had yet to even spill a single word about it. Of course she’d keep it as a surprised. Did she have brownies to go with it as well? Still, not pushing the subject the dragon would watch outside the window as they drove by the town. The air already slowly easing her steam as if all she needed was to get out of the house. Soon enough they would stop by their place for the night, a bar. A karaoke bar, which would not have been her first guess, Lea ducked a little to peak out the window. At least it wasn’t really crowded. Hell knows what could have happened if it did.

“You ever been here before?”

Lea would agree, and of course she would when she was left with no other choice in the matter. She could have fought it, most would have argued that she was more than a capable enough woman to contend with the spellbinder. Both a truth and not, the tenacity of Mei knew very little bounds and in this case, none. It was nothing she found any joy in for herself if she were being honest, though she was entirely sure that Lea need not sit around and mope over what was to come. There was no need for her suffrage to continue, and so they'd go. Lea grabbing a coat on the way out the front door as Mei dug her keys from her bag. "No," it was crisp and airy, nothing that insisted on secrecy like it might unravel the other woman but rather an easy mention that would have seen her shoulders shrugged had she been the type.

"I'd not drag you out for more suffering,"

It was all she'd say as they slipped into her car and left Lea's place behind. It wasn't a lot but it was also enough, at least in her mind. An asking after her trust as the car purred to life and they slid rather effortlessly into traffic. It wasn't a long drive to the little bar tucked between some other businesses in a fairly low maintenance moment of the city. It was quaint and quiet, its outer wall brick an old brick thing that was climbed over by ivy. It seemed such a soft little place with nothing much to hinder it, no thumping bass and no line of people to get in. From the outside it looked more like a cafe than it did a pub at all.

It's name was something Irish and even this was quaint, like it might have been someone grandfather's pub.

The neon sign out front that boasted their karaoke was nothing Mei paid any attention to as she parked and they peeled themselves from her car. "A time or two, yes. It's usually quiet and casual," though there also wasn't meant to be karaoke on Thursdays but by the time they reached the front door it was clear that this wasn't the case at all. The man at the door recognized her, stating something about her finally making it for the fabled night they were so proud of--

Her frown was soft but lingering as she hesitantly tugged open the door.

"This usually happens on Fridays,"

Murmured to Lea as they slipped into the warm little bar. It was all old wood with seemingly endless beer on tap. A cute little place that wasn't yet full of squalling voices. Yet. A glance at her watch and she'd note they had about half and hour before it started. They had just enough time to get a drink in and leave if Lea was still discomforted over things, or if they wanted to avoid the unlikely lyrical masters of the city. Standing at the bar and Mei would place her order with the tender, a young man with a jovial round face--

"Vodka soda with a lime twist,"

Attention settling on the dragon as she ordered and they were left alone for a moment.

"Does he not know then, your father, where your interests lie? I would have assumed you'd have told him, you're not the type to keep secrets... not well anyway,"

Soft and crisp her dark eyes watched Lea as she stood there, she'd kept a secret from Mei once, about her love of stars... and that hadn't worked out well for very long at all.

A time or two, huh?

For knowing when an event happens at a place that was a strong indication that the said person went to it more than just a few times. Hands would stay stuffed in the pockets of her jacket as they made their way in into the little bar. To the front there was a stage, something that looked like it was starting to be set up for a show. The idea of staying was still rather contemplating. The dragon found it could be entertaining to see people drunkenly singing on top of the stage. She wasn’t a singer really so she hopped she wouldn’t be dragged up there without warning.

But that’s how they got them.

Lea eyed drinks options. Nothing in particular sounded good or to step out at her, she’d ended up just waving lightly as if she were just throwing away something “Just a burbon.” Her back would touch the counter, leaning against it as the dragon eyed around the bar for a while as she kept her mouth quite. It wasn’t until Mei questioned about her father again. No, she kept secrets just fine…for the most part. The blonde would sigh, finding her lips smiling at the light jest attacked towards her. “Hard really say. My mother didn’t know until I told her and they were divorced and separated at that point.”

Drinks would be brought over, Lea taking out some money as she handed it over, thanking the bartender. Her drink in hand, she’s sip it casually thinking, having turned herself to Mei. It wasn’t the easiest to talk about her parents. It had been so long, Lea almost thought it was stupid to hold a grudge against them. It was hard not to. The drink held in her hands with her side nudged into the countertop. When I told mom I didn’t stick around after that and went on my own. Eventually I ended up here and found out Mr. Chairmen was here. It didn’t’ me from living where I wanted.”

As the cup brought back to her lips a larger chug would roll down her throat trying to get a burn that wasn’t’ hot enough. She’s sigh rubbing her neck looking back at the Asian woman. “I try not to linger too far in the NASA stuff, cause I didn’t want him thinking I was like him. Truth be told he was a terrible father, and the same would be sai to my mother. They treated me like I was a burden to them, something that was loft in the way.” She remembered his words the last time they spoke. She’d clearly ask if he still cared, if he did at all.

He didn’t give her any response.

“He’s selfish. I care less about him having a new family and more of the fact of he doesn’t fuck it up for them. I can only imagine the woman he married was an arrangement and she stays in the fae realm like he wants and does whatever he says. God fuck,” she’s stop rubbing her face, forcing to stop herself from fucking tearing up at the ass hat of a father. It didn’t matter now. It’s been centuries and its practically a new life for both of them.

Another hard chug would practically finish her drink, putting it to the side and her arms crossing one another. She hate talking about it. “I’ve always tried to pride myself in doing what I want and what I love and to still see someone just… deem it as something that’s disgusting and disgracefully makes me angry.”A hand scratched into her scalp and pushed some strands of hairs behind her ear, but failed. When did this karaoke thing start, she could use a fucking good laugh right about now.

Mei nodded softly as Lea answered. So she'd not told him, if he were any kind of man observant he'd not have a hard time figuring it out, but then in Mei's experience, men were rarely that. Block-headed and proud they often had a hard time looking outside themselves and to anything that didn't involve or revolve around themselves. From all that Lea had said of him, Mei wouldn't be surprised at all if he were no different. A few bills fished from her bag and slipped across the counter to pay for her drink as it sat before her, clear, bubbles clung to the glass and garnished with a twist of lime as requested. It looked refreshing, though her attention wasn't paid tot he drink much at all beyond its tucking against her palm. "I see," calm and gentle, it lapsed from her tongue with a quiet flick. "I don't imagine much capable of keeping you from what you want, Lea," a quiet chuckle, breathy and short and her almond shaped gaze would scan the room a moment.

It was a truth, a fact laid bare. Lea was a woman who pursued what she wanted, from Mei's knowledge of her anyway, a woman that needed a hard and fast no to ever stop her and even then, in the context of her profession or the world in general, it wasn't a notion she took at face value.

Tenacious and determined.

Mei listened as Lea spoke of her father and his family, her voice growing more passionate as she continued, licked over in the need to spit fire and brimstone at a man who'd not given her the time of day. She couldn't help but wonder if it was his lacking validation that Lea craved or if she really did just, and only, selfishly care over his actions with someone else. It seemed noble in a ay but also something of a lost cause.

A zebra and their stripes came to mind.

She'd say nothing as Lea spoke, silent and watchful, focused and sipping her drink. The soft quirk of her mouth here and there to signify her disagreement in their actions or her apology after the mistreatment at her parents' hands. Brows furrowing lightly and her hand would shift to squeeze lightly around Lea's bicep, a gesture of comfort as she settled into her ire once more. Her face tinged with pink and her eyes hard and elsewhere, Mei's frown was gentle and tinted her voice softly when she finally moved to speak.

"It's the plight of us all, really, warring against the outdated views of the world, your father's included."

A soft sigh as her gaze slipped back to the room-- to the stage as they set up for the coming festivities. Mei hadn't ever spoken much about herself, or her preferences. It wasn't anything she cared to divulge as it was her own business and no one else's, but in the moment it felt a needful thing to say. To not leave the woman beside her hanging there to fight a battle by herself.

"Thankfully Lawrence never minded, but my profession always has. Not baking," obviously. A hand waved gently then, before it clasped back to her elbow, drink held before her but ignored. "It isn't anything regarded well, attraction to the same sex, in any form it takes, even in the business of escorts. Paris, where we were before, was as open minded as they came and it still frowned over it. It's better now, but at the same, it's also viewed as a novelty," a quiet sigh as the woman setting up tapped and tested the mic.

"It's nothing easy but we have to live and love for ourselves,"

Her gaze slanted back, smile faint and to one side as she chirped softly under the announcement that they'd be starting with Conny, who was singing... Britney Spears.

"And fuck all the rest of them, right?"

It felt as uncouth as she was sure it sounded from her tongue, her lopsided grin deepening as she watched the woman take the stage in all her drunken glory.

The small chuckle that came from the woman, made the dragon feel a little ease. She never heard that very often from Mei. It was nice. The touch that followed almost made Lea flinch, at least it would have if it weren’t for the fact she was looking at the spellbinder. The long and short of her life was pretty much that. Parents treated her poorly and went from there. Granted there were stories between of schooling, and all that but eventually pieces fell together so it didn’t really matter. With so old of creatures living in the world of today nothing could truly ever go forward with them, right?

Or so it seemed with her parents in particular.

Lea felt her brows lightly push as her company started to talk. If there was anything Mei hardly talked about, it was herself. Here and there Lea would finds something new and wonder why she hadn’t known before. The blonde would just watch the Asian and listened quietly. It felt refreshing to hear those words of comfort as the dragon didn’t always surround herself with people she would completely go vulnerable to. Even now, there sat a wall, but it slowly chipped away as a smile tugged her lips in a responds.

“You know, I never hear you laugh a lot, or smile. It’s nice to hear it. Makes me think we’re connecting on something. Guess it makes those times special huh?” Lea took the cup she had, and downed the last bit she had before ordering another. The scratch of the mic check and then drunken screaming that was singing. A small snort of laughter would make the dragon stand up a little straighter, actually feeling better. Handed the glass, she wasn’t afraid of taking another long chug and this time finishing her second drink.

Their attention would shift onto the singer that started the night. Something back and terrible to rock everyone else’s world that was still sober. Lea wasn’t’ a singer, but a room full of drunks wouldn’t really care. Lea leaned towards Mei to talk so she didn’t have to speak over the drunken woman who swayed as she sang on stage. “How many people actually participate? Crowds seems a little light to be..” Her curiosity immediately answered as more people started to slot inside the bar. Was this really that popular?

The blonde shifted just a bit closer to the Asian woman as she felt a crow d shifting forward near the stage with drinks in hand. “..have you ever tried to sing in one of these nights?”

”I suppose it does,” it was still too laced with mirth to be as serious as she’d have preferred it to be. Mei wasn’t a woman who cracked easily and even beyond that, a woman who spoke so readily of herself. A subject she wasn’t particularly shy over but also never one she offered openly. If asked, she did tend to be a bit more forthcoming but on a whole she labored under the constant impression that her life wasn’t anything anyone really wanted to hear about. Perhaps a fallacy but for her it was nothing cute or nice, a conversation subject that weighted everything down when it needn’t be dragged down at all.

A serious woman and her laugh was never anything she handed out like candy to kids on Halloween, neither was it anything she withheld, much like her history it was something she was willing to give, she simply didn’t. A fact likely tied to the well mannered woman, too well trained to be a quiet entity on an arm. She’d not blame it all on this, but it was a contributing factor she knew well enough.

Their attention fell to the stage than, as a woman well into her night at this point, climbed aboard and began something at such a wailing pitch Mei was almost prompted to cringe. This was nothing she’d have sought out, nothing she’d have stayed for had she not the company that needed the outing more than she. Had Lea indicated she’d been uncomfortable Mei would have easily seen them out and to somewhere else that was less of this. But the woman beside her chuckled and Mei relaxed, at least a little, a soft silent sigh smoothing from her lungs in a huff.

The soft tilt of her head would angle her ear towards the dragon, more a move for looks then need, as her hearing was well beyond that of a typical mortal. It was an offering though, a sort of cant that offered a moment far more intimate than shouting in the general direction of the other. Lea’s voice was low as she questioned over the crowd, nothing that Mei knew anything about if she were being honest, head shaking a bit though there’d be no time to answer proper before the door opened and the actual crowd began to filter in in a wave of slightly stammering bodies.

A brow arching as Mei watched them, their proximity was nothing that bothered, neither was it anything she enjoyed, just was. She’d note Lea’s sidle and settling as the crowd pressed in,though her own eyes were glued to the stage as the woman singing Britney staggered off the stage. Mei wasn’t so sure why anyone got a thrill out of making a fool of themselves in a crowded room, but then she'd never been much of the adventurous type either.

”Me..?”

She sounded a bit incredulous, her gaze swinging to the side to peer at Lea, her face closer and Mei felt the odd need to lean back a bit. She’d not. Simply stared at her a moment before a quiet chuckle rung from her throat. Breathy and soft, her blink was almost kittenish as her gaze slipped back to the stage. ”Do I really strike you as the sort?”

Mei wasn’t even the sort who sung in the shower, not that she couldn’t sing, technically everyone could. But she was on par with the masses in that she was nothing that should sing.

”No. Never,”

Softer still as she sipped her drink, it’s tart flavor washing over her senses in a manner soothing.

"Have you?"

Perhaps not here, but it seemed better fitting a thing for Lea than it did Mei.

”Does it look like I’m talking to anyone else?” A cheeky grin flashed at the spellbinder that had yet to answer her question. True, she was already certain she had an idea of what the answer was, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t still ask. The dragon had taking her last chug of her drink before the massive crowd has made their way in and crowd to the stage. There must have been people that came in pre drunk if they believe the squawking was actual singing. The blonde rested her cheek on her hand just amused now at the woman’s little baffled star that calmly blinked. “Hey, you could be? There might be a fun side to you yet Mei. I’m sure I’ll dig something on you yet.~”

A cheeky grin playfully stretched her cheeks, slowly feeling better about her night as a whole. Who knew it took small talk, drinks and terrible singing to Brittney Bitch, could cure a fuming dragon? The question was thrown back; a small shrug didn’t deny she hadn’t tried in the past. Singing in the shower, or rocking out to a song but never actual singing. She didn’t particularly think she was good at it vocally. “Once upon a time, mother tried to put me in singing classes. It didn’t last long as I made the teacher just mad as hell. I’ve done maybe one or two karaoke bar singing before but those were ages ago.”

Lea turned to look at the messy line up on a chalk board they had smooshed over on the stage. Not realy of songs but of types and people that could come up and sing. A spot for a duet was spotted and it have the fae an idea. She’s return her attention to Mei taking a step closer, arms resting on the counter top and their hips gently bummed. “How about…for shits and giggles. A duet? Me and you. Just one and then once we’re done we can get out of here before it’s too rowdy.”

The dragon gave a small shimmy of a gesture as if she was trying to hug the woman but put her hands on Mei’s shoulder’s instead. “Come oon. They’re too drunk to really care or remember. Maybe pop that singing cherry? Even just a tiny bit?” They were out for her, was that not true? Wouldn’t Mei want to make sure Lea was okay and having a nice time outside the house?

Another applause would roar the crow, having the host make her way up to the mike to calm them all down. Alright, alright, alight! Now we got the duet second up. We can slooooow it a bit with one and get back to the fun. Any volunteers? Come on we need a feeew!” The dragon turned back to Mei with a lopsided grin. Brows wiggled very lightly to nudge the idea in hopes the Asian would do it. “come on…just one? It would really…make my night better to have a bit of a laugh. Please?”

A quiet snort and the wry roll of her eyes would convey a soft sort of amusement, it'd not reach much further than the gentled creases at the corners of her almond shaped eyes. Mei had never really considered herself one who readily attached herself to the idea of fun, a business woman who'd been working all her life to get where she was and the thought of a personal life alone was something of an oddity she only half understood. Stepping foot into a bar where she'd be subjected to listening to or participating in something as wild as karaoke was not anything Mei would have elected for herself. While it was nothing she found that didn't entertain it was certainly not her first choice, she'd have much rather sat down in a little pub and chatted about the weather than she would have this.

It did, however, look like Lea was enjoying herself a little more, which was well worth the strange feeling that curled into her gut. Mei couldn't rightly identify it as, something that casually sought to embarrass her for the woman on the stage, though it also attached a bit of brow quirk as the woman in question reached for a high note that she was nowhere in the realm of ever hitting. It squelched from her and furrowed Mei's brows in turn, a subtle shift upon her features that was nothing fond of the sound.

A bit like a yowling cat.

Mei listened as Lea spoke of her very short span of time in vocal classes, it wasn't anything surprising, really, the thought of a youthful Lea driving her teacher up the wall. "Sounds about right--" her chin swiveled sudden;y, the casual of her tone dipping a bit into disbelief as she eyed the dragon a moment. The words that poured from her mouth were nothing Mei knew how to process, not in a case that she had any choice over. Had she been paid to stand where she was, her head would have dipped obediently and she'd have either gone through with it or used the wiles God gave her to sway the idea to something that didn't leave her as less off as this poor woman exiting the stage.

"A what--"

It stammered softly as Lea's hands pressed to her shoulders and she was left to stare at the woman who wanted her to make a fool of herself of her own volition. The no was ripe on her tongue though she'd stave it off for a moment, allowing Lea to finish. The woman on the stage called for a pair of volunteers. The no was still ripe on her tongue. Lea pulled the trump card then and Mei could feel the stern of her shoulders deflate a bit. They were out for the betterment of the woman beside her, it was only fair they saw it all through. "Alright fine. One." Her voice was stern before she turned towards the stage and took a step from the bar, her glass left behind with a napkin over its top to see it saved.

A deep breath would shoot her hand up in an offering for tribute as the insides of her coiled in everything like nervous anxiety. The soft excitement from the stage didn't help as they were ushered up. Mei left Lea to choose whatever song she wanted as she filed to the far side of the stage where the mic sat. Her features too stern and the lights (thankfully) too bright, the only thing she could see was the monitor that held some tacky background and the would-soon-be scrolling text.

The things she did for friendship.

There was every doubt in her mind that the woman would say yes. Lea would have gone up there alone, but it was no fun if she has a friend that didn’t join her. With every muscle that was bond to say no, the unexpected had turned into a yes. The dragon grinned and eyes bright as the other took steps forward to volunteer them. With a bit of enthusiasm the woman would follow directly behing Mei and part when she stopped by the DJ. There were a list of song to choose from and quite frankly Lea didn’t know any names. She based it off how it sounded and what she liked.

“Hmph.. no…no…nah, that’ss sounds boring. Um.. OH,” A finger tapped on a name to show the DJ who drunkenly nodded his head. It was amazing what people could do while drunk. ‘Rewrite the stars,’ it sounded fun, and the dragon liked stars so what could go wrong? No one would remember, so the dragon slowly had high hopes to make it out easy with little casualties. Moments later she would meet Mei on the stage, her smile looking more and more cheerful as it did. She may hold this over the spellbinder’s head forever.

Mei would kill her if she did…a noble way to go.

Lea would look over to the company as she got to the stage, a small nudge of her elbow touching her arm as she whispered the last bit of encouragement before the song would start. “T minus three and a half minutes and we’ll be outta here. Promise.” Lea would give a rather confident smile as she moved to have a bit of the other side for the mike and looked to the screen where the words would be shown to them.

Like any system, easy to follow and labeled person one, two and both for when the cues would start. Lea had the idea to push forward so she immediately took the person one spot. There was a sudden realization however what kind of song she had picked. A slow romantic one she was not familiar with. At first her rhythm would stumble before finding a basic tempo to follow. Now noticing they weren’t singing together at first as all she saw was ‘Person 1’ on the screen to direct to sing.

You know I want you
It's not a secret I try to hide
I know you want me
So don't keep saying our hands are tied
You claim it's not in the cards
And fate is pulling you miles away
And out of reach from me
But you're here in my heart
So who can stop me if I decide
That you're my destiny?

What if we rewrite the stars?
Say you were made to be mine
Nothing could keep us apart
You'd be the one I was meant to find
It's up to you, and it's up to me
No one can say what we get to be
So why don't we rewrite the stars?
Maybe the world could be ours
Tonight

When it was not clear Mei would have to sing, Lea would calmly look over to her as she had slightly avoided it prior to her lack of knowledge of the words and the obvious awkwardness of what the song all leaned towards. Nevertheless, she wouldn’t let Mei live this moment down. Neither of them would.
